Microbiology in your mouth

FungiSmart® products have been developed based on the unique microbiological properties of the microorganism Pythium oligandrum, also known as the ‘Clever Fungus’.

Pythium Oligandrum is a biological preparation that occurs naturally in the soil and acts as a natural enemy of harmful fungi. This so-called mycoparasite ‘eats’ other fungi and is thus able to reproduce independently. The organism acts as a predator: it uses certain pathogenic fungi as a food source and eliminates them, whilst beneficial bacteria – for example, in the mouth or on the skin – are left unharmed.

What makes Pythium Oligandrum special is that it feeds exclusively on
other fungi and shows no interest in human or animal tissue.

Mode of action

Pythium Oligandrum acts as a natural mycoparasite. In the mouth, the oospores attach themselves to the surface of the mucous membrane, where they germinate and compete with pathogenic fungi (e.g. Candida) for territory and nutrients. This activity supports a balanced oral microbiome and a healthier oral environment. At the same time, the cell walls of fungi are broken down enzymatically, thereby reducing the fungal population
is decreasing.

No side effects or resistance

FungiSmart is hypoallergenic and does not build up resistance with regular use, unlike some other products.

FungiSmart is suitable for all target and risk groups, and all ages. There is no risk of overdosing on this biological preparation.

A trial was recently carried out in the Netherlands. The results show that FungiSmart Oral is effective and can be used safely.
