The FungiSmart Oral products
Find out more about the power and differences in methods
Three processes in balance
The oral microbiome consists of bacteria, fungi and viruses that coexist in a state of balance. When that balance is disrupted – for example, by stress, a poor diet, medication such as antibiotics, or poor oral hygiene – problems arise.
Loss of bacterial control
Beneficial bacteria (such as Streptococcus salivarius and
Actinomyces) keep fungi in check by regulating oxygen, pH and
to regulate nutrients. If the number of these bacteria decreases,
fungi have free rein.
Acidification and biofilm formation
Fungi and anaerobic bacteria together form a biofilm,
in other words, a sticky film that sticks to the tongue, teeth or
dental prostheses. This biofilm makes it more difficult for pathogens to
delete.
Inflammatory response and mucosal irritation
The immune system reacts to the overgrowth with symptoms such as redness,
swelling or a burning sensation, bad breath and more. Long-term
An imbalance can even lead to inflammation and chronic poor
respiratory problems or an increased susceptibility to systemic infections.
